Escadaria Selarón - Mosiac covered steps

These steps were definitely one of the things that attracted us to staying in Santa Teresa, not just the name of the neighborhood. The official name is Ladeira de Santa Teresa but the locals call it Escadaria Selaron. This name refers to the artist Jorge Selarón that created this amazing work of art. He lived off the sad steps and took it upon himself to liven it up as a hobby. The hobby became an obsession, 250 steps, 2000+ tiles and this is what you get.

These pictures are taken from the top of the stairs walking down, looking back up at where we had just walked.

The artist calls these steps his tribute to the people of Brazil.

Can you find him in this picture?

This one might be a little easier. He makes for a great contrast against the steps.
